Wrongly imprisoned for the murders of his parents as a young child, Jacob has spent the last 34 years in jail claiming to be innocent. Not only that, he also believes that his parents were killed by a bug that only emerges briefly every seventeen years. There is no longer time to wait as the cicadas are set to emerge. After breaking out of jail, Jacob is doggedly pursued by Emily, a recruit recently assigned to his case. But as Emily gets closer to finding Jacob, she also draws dangerously close to a shocking truth. The Cicadas are real. And they are back with a vengeance.
